Most of the world's crops depend on pollination by bees. Albert Einstein once said that if the bees disappeared, "man would have only four years of life left".


The UK bee population has crashed over the last few years due to change in agricultural practices, the effect of the varroa parasite and of course the appalling weather over the last two years.


It is vital that bees are nurtured and the number of colonies increased in the UK.


Now you a chance to help reduce the decline. Without having to deal with the bees directly


Fragile Planet has 110 hive split over 3 apiaries in the Welsh Marches. They are all within 15 miles of Oswestry.


Apiary One is near the Montgomery Canal and is situated on a mixed arable and Dairy Farm


Apiary Two is situated on an organic farm at Llantsantfraid near the River Tanat


Apiary Three is situated on an organic smallholding at Rhos-y-Brithdir near Llanfyllin


Apiary Four is situated at my home near Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant


All these apiaries contain a number of hives.

With 'Invest-a-Hive' you buy a share in a hive.

The total hive cost is £300 for a full productive colony.

This is divided into 12 shares of £25 each.

You can buy as many shares as you want.

The colonies you invest in are part of our apiaries based in Shropshire.

The investment will buy you a proportion of the honey produced in our apiaries.

In a good year you can expect 30 lbs of honey per colony.

So if you have 1 share (£25) then you can expect 2.5 lbs of honey per annum.

The honey harvest is September and the honey would be sent to you at the end of September.

You will get a report on the progress of your hive and colony during the year via email.
