| Varroa Floors are now a necessity to keep infestations down These Floors are treated and have a landing strip, an entrance block and a correx shelf (to measure mite drop). The shelf should not be left in -it just encourages wax moth and the mites can crawl back up and re-infest the bees For winters we would recommend putting an empty super above the floor before the brood - this ensures that the Varroa Floor is still active but no cold winds pass directly over the brood All our colonies survived when managed like this in the very cold winter of 2005/2006 when the apiary temperature dropped to -8 Centigrade on many occasions For helpful and friendly advice call 01691 672869 | |
